Here is our programme of four concerts for 2023 (please keep scrolling down!):

FRIDAY 19 MAY 2023      VIKTORIA MULLOVA & ALASDAIR BEATSON  (VIOLIN & FORTEPIANO)

Mullova Beatson

Schubert’s sunshine, fragility and passion are all there.”     The Strad

“To hear Mullova play Bach is, simply, one of the greatest things you can experience.”   The Guardian

One of the world’s greatest violin virtuosos, Viktoria Mullova’s curiosity spans the breadth of musical development from baroque and classical right up to the most contemporary influences from the world of fusion and experimental music.  She works regularly with highly prestigious period ensembles as well as appearing each season with top international orchestras and conductors. In 2022/23 Viktoria will continue her collaboration with Scottish pianist Alasdair Beatson, playing Beethoven and Schubert.

The programme will include sonatas by Beethoven and Schubert;  Viktoria will also play the solo Bach Chaconne from Partita No. 2, BWV 1004.

FRIDAY 16 JUNE       THE MARIAN CONSORT (vocal ensemble)

The Marian Consort | Linn Records

“Singing one person to a part, The Marian Consort give sublimely refined, spacious and impeccably tuned performances.”     The Sunday Times

The Marian Consort is a vocal ensemble composed of the very best singers in a flexible, intimate group;  led by founder/director Rory McCleery, it features regularly on BBC Radio 3, and has released 12 recordings to critical acclaim.

The concert will feature works from late Renaissance Rome by Palestrina, Anerio and Allegri.  The second half includes Roman works from subsequent generations written for performance with voices and continuo (chamber organ), including the amazing Stabat Mater by Domenico Scarlatti.

FRIDAY 7 JULY     MAO FUJITA  (solo piano)

Artist - Mao Fujita - Mao Fujita

Fujita is a musician of tremendous versatility and taste, with a poetic sense of pulse and eloquent, insightful, fearless articulation.”   The Times

With an innate musical sensitivity and naturalness to his artistry, 23-year old Japanese pianist Mao Fujita has already impressed many leading musicians as one of those special talents which come along only rarely, equally at home in Mozart as in the major romantic repertoire.

Amended programme:  Mao will perform Mozart's Sonata No. 1 from 6 Wiener Sonatinen, K.439b, Rondo in A minor, K.511, Fantasia No.4 in C minor, K.475 and Sonata No.14 in C minor, K.457, and Chopin Polonaises:  Op. 26 nos. 1 and 2, Op. 40 nos. 1 and 2 and Op. 44

FRIDAY 22 SEPTEMBER       QUATUOR VAN KUIJK & SEAN SHIBE  (string quartet & guitar)

“Style, energy and a sense of risk.  These four young Frenchmen made the music smile.”          The Guardian

Former BBC New Generation Artists, Quatuor Van Kuijk swept the board at the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet competition.  The French ensemble is now an established presence in many of the most prestigious international venues.

Sean Shibe was the first guitarist ever to be selected for the BBC’s New Generation Artists scheme, to be awarded a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship and, in 2018, to receive the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Young Artists. He has made several award-winning recordings.

The concert will feature guitar quintets by Boccherini and Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Schubert’s String Quartet no.12 in C minor, D.703 "Quartettsatz".  Sean Shibe will also play some solo pieces.

Hope you will join us for more memorable music-making!
