Here is our programme of four concerts for 2025 (please keep scrolling down!):

**ALL CONCERTS START AT 7:00 PM**

FRIDAY 23 MAY 2025     SKAMPA STRING QUARTET

“The Škampa produced an intensely idiomatic performance, full of sound contrasts and internal melodies, aggressive and dynamic ……and all superbly attentive to every detail of volume and phrasing..”   The Reviews Hub

Formed in Prague in 1989, the Škampa Quartet is one of the finest string quartets in the world, earning its place in the great Czech tradition of chamber music with a long list of successful recordings and major prizes. The players’ research into their country’s folk traditions  -  notably the influence of Moravian music on Janáček  -  colours their playing vividly, and has made them a benchmark for authentic performance of the Czech repertoire.  We are looking forward to the group’s return to Naunton after its first appearance in 2001.

The concert will open with Mozart’s Quartet in D major, K575, followed by Janáček’s Quartet no. 1 ‘Kreutzer Sonata’.  The second half will feature the Quartet in A minor op. 51, no. 2 by Brahms.

FRIDAY 20 JUNE       STILE ANTICO  (CHORAL ENSEMBLE)

“The singing is staggeringly beautiful, the balance meticulous.”     The Sunday Times

We are delighted to welcome back Stile Antico for a third visit to Naunton.  Now in its 20th season, the group is firmly established as one of the world’s most accomplished and innovative vocal ensembles. Working without a conductor, its twelve members have thrilled audiences on four continents with their fresh, vibrant and moving performances of Renaissance polyphony.

The programme, called ‘The Prince of Music’, celebrates the quincentenary of Palestrina. It includes several of Palestrina’s most beloved motets, gems by other leading composers active in Rome, and a new work by leading British composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad, commissioned for this programme.

.

FRIDAY 4 JULY     MISHKA RUSHDIE MOMEN  (SOLO PIANO)

“A triumph…. myriad subtleties of dynamics, touch and tone.   The Times

Hailed as “one of the most thoughtful and sensitive of British pianists” (The Times), Mishka Rushdie Momen captivates audiences with her refined and expressive playing.  This season, her recitals include Wigmore Hall, Aldeburgh Festival and the re-openIng festival of the Frick Collection in New York.  Her latest album ‘Reformation’ (Hyperion, 2024) topped the classical charts in July this year.

The programme features Schubert’s Sonatas in A minor, D.784 and D major, D.850.  Mishka will also play selections from ‘On an overgrown path’ by Janáček.

FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER       TRIO GASPARD  (PIANO TRIO  -  PIANO, VIOLIN & CELLO)

“A truly refreshing performance! Richly coloured, honest, full of joy….!”          Ensemble Magazine

Founded in 2010, Trio Gaspard is one of the most sought-after piano trios of its generation, praised for its unique and fresh approach to the score. Trio Gaspard performs at major international concert halls, including Wigmore Hall and Berlin Philharmonie, and important engagements over the past year include recitals at the BBC Proms and KKL Lucerne.  As well as exploring and championing the traditional piano trio repertoire, the Trio works regularly with contemporary composers.

The concert will feature trios by Haydn, Martinů and Dvořák, plus a new work commissioned by Trio Gaspard.

Hope you will join us for more memorable music-making!
